Spartan Gridiron News was the name of the Michigan State football programs from 1935-1955 and again from 1965-1969.

Prior to 1950, MSC programs featured syndicated artwork that was not unique, but sold by advertising agencies
to colleges across the country. Many were created by artist Lon Keller and were used by colleges across the country.
From 1950-1967, Barbara Cahoon Brown, an MSU art department faculty
member, created memorable and unique "Sparty" cartoon program covers.

From 1967-68, MSU student Phil Frank carried on the tradition of creating original art for the football programs. He published cartoons in the State News and would go on to be a syndicated cartoonist and author based in San Francisco.
